SUMS combines deep higher education expertise with practical transformation experience. We understand the financial, operational and service pressures universities face, and we work with institutions to design solutions that are realistic, evidence-based and grounded in their specific context. Our consultants and practitioners bring experience from across higher education and other sectors, including people who have worked in, led and advised professional services, operating model design and transformation programmes. We draw on lived experience from across universities, insight from institutions of all shapes and sizes and an understanding of evolving sector practice to help clients make informed choices about structures, services, capabilities and ways of working. 

We work in partnership with universities to understand the current operating model, explore data and evidence, identify opportunities for improvement and build a clear case for change. From targeted maturity reviews and opportunities analysis through to full target operating model design and implementation support, we tailor our approach to each institution’s priorities, appetite for change and capacity to deliver. Our focus is on practical recommendations that can be implemented and sustained in the long term.
