His academic work focuses upon the co-development, design and evaluation of learning-based behavioural interventions to promote sustainable development, in community and organisational settings. Most recently this has involved delivery of training, toolkits and audits for businesses and community organisations to develop net zero action plans. Within DMU, Andrew has established the university’s approach to Carbon Literacy Training and led on developing the university’s net zero emission targets and climate action commitments.
He leads on the Environmental Sustainability theme of the Civic Universities Agreement for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland and chairs the East Midlands Regional Centre of Expertise (RCE) in Education for Sustainable Development.
Andrew has long-standing voluntary sector experience within grassroots sustainability initiatives, co-founding Leicestershire’s first community energy co-operative, Greenlight festival of sustainable living and the Leicester Carbon Rationing Action Group.
Andrew and family live on a narrowboat on the river Soar in Leicestershire.
