Andrew is an innovation strategy and structure specialist with expertise in knowledge exchange and impact training, bid writing and REF impact.
His expertise in organising innovation services across central and distributed teams and also leads workshops to help researchers develop their engagement skills and map a path to impact over 6 months or a decade. In addition to this, Andrew has written innovation funding proposals from £30k to £30M and can develop theories of change, risk assessments, finances, governance, and much more.
Andrew joined the University of Bristol, Division of Research, Enterprise and Innovation in 2009 as a Knowledge Exchange Manager. From 2015 he built and led knowledge exchange teams becoming Head of Impact Development in 2019. For 18 months he was seconded to deliver the University’s REF 2021 impact case studies with a team of editors. In 2022 he became Director of Bristol Innovations: Research Impact with responsibility for commercialisation, policy and public engagement as well as knowledge exchange.
Before his career at the University of Bristol, Andrew studied for a PhD in Physics and worked at IOP Publishing Ltd, the publishing arm of the Institute of Physics, where he launched open access titles and managed journals for other learned societies around the world.
