Claire has developed expertise in sustainable procurement, particularly with a view to the potential for influencing supply chains. She has successfully studied Sustainable Supply Chain Management with the University of Cambridge Institute of Sustainability Leadership. Claire is a systems thinker, with a natural focus on finding holistic solutions, which helps with effective process reviews and change management.

Claire joins SUMS as an associate following a career across the public sector, including roles in local and regional authorities, social housing and HE. Her most recent role was as Head of Procurement at the University of Portsmouth, from which she retired in September 2023. Claire headed up the procurement team, responsible for approximately £110m influenceable spend, and took the function through a PMA+ review. She worked alongside colleagues as part of the Sustainability Strategic Delivery Group to deliver changes across the whole of the institution, impacting students and staff alike.

Outside of work Claire is a trustee and director of The Sustainability Centre based in East Meon, and is a volunteer advisor with Citizens Advice.
